Multimedia Multicultural Children's Literature Association of the Philippines, Inc. goes to Nueva Vizcaya

On April 4, 2008, the Multimedia Multicultural Children's Literature Association of the Philippines, Inc. (MMCLAPI) will be coming to Nueva Vizcaya for an outreach activity. This is activity is in connection with the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.-Cagayan Valley Region Librarians Council, Saint Mary's University particularly the Kalinga Center and University Library, and the Nueva Vizcaya Librarians Association, Inc.

There will be giving of books to children, puppet shows, etc. The recipient of this outreach program of MMCLAPI is the "Munting Paaralan" of Saint Mary's University consisting of indigent children. Librarians in the Province of Nueva Vizcaya are also invited to join the said activity.

The people behinf this activity are Mrs. Fe Abelardo, Dr. Enrique T. Cayaban, and Dr. Isabelita Rabec.

2008 Librarians Licensure Examination (LLE)

The 2008 Librarians Licensure Examination will be held on November 11 & 12, 2008 in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Legaspi and Zamboanga. Deadline for submission of requirements is October 22, 2008.

PRC Requirements:
1. Original and photo/xerox copies of Transcript of Records with Special Order and Date of Graduation with SCANNED PICTURES AND WITH REMARKS “FOR BOARD EXAMINATION PURPOSES ONLY”. View Res.2004-200. .(Graduates of government schools and institutions/programs accredited by recognized accrediting agencies under the FAAP are exempted from SO [B]) . Graduates of New Schools/Degree/Programs must submit School Recognition and/or Permit to Operate.

2. Original and photo/xerox copy of NSO-issued of Birth Certificate (in NSO security paper; if NSO copy not very clear, bring copy from local civil registrar)

3. Four (4) passport size colored pictures with complete name tag in white background

4. Current Community Tax Certificate (Cedula)

5. Original and photo/xerox copies of NSO-issued Marriage Contract in NSO security paper (for married female only;if NSO copy not very clear, bring copy from local civil registrar)

6. Other specific requirements as required by the Commission and/or the Professional Regulatory Board.

After Filing your Application

* Secure a copy of the Program of Examination from the Application Division or Customer Service Center. (This is FREE)
* Your school / building assignment will be posted one or two days before the first day of the examination.
* Visit your school/building assignment for environment and transport familiarization.

What to Wear on Examination Days

* MALE - white polo shirt or T-shirt (tucked-in)
* FEMALE – white blouse or T-shirt

General Instructions To Examinees

* Report to the Test Center before 6:30 a.m. on the first day of examination to verify your room and seat numbers.
* Late examinees will not be admitted.
* Attend to your personal needs before the start of examination in every subject. No examinee will be allowed to go out of the examination room while the examination is in progress.
* Always put your answer sheet on top of the armchair while taking the examination.
* Stop answering the test questions at the end of the time alloted for the subject. Arrange your test papers as follows:
1. Notice of Admission;
2. Answer Sheet; and
3. Test Questionnaire

* Do not leave the room until
1. your answer sheet and test question set are received by the room watchers,
2. you have signed, indicated the time and set ( A or B ) on the Examinees Record of Attendance, and
3. the lower portion of your Notice of Admission (Certification on the Receipt of Test Papers) is signed by the Room Watchers and returned to you.

Ang Laybraryan ng Kasalukuyang Panahon (Ikalawang Bahagi ng Isang Serye) Ni Roderick B. Ramos

Ang mga bagong panukala ay kailangang ipamalas pagkatapos makaranas ng mga pagbabago. (Garcia, 2006) Mula sa isang pamantayang sosyal hangggang maging kasanayan, "ang pagsalin ng inobasyon at teknolohiya ay nagdulot ng panibagong pakikibahagi ang laybraryan higit bilang tagapaghatid o tagapamagitan ng impormasyon. Ito ay bunga ng pagiging MALIKHAIN, pagkakaroon ng malalim na PAGNANAIS kaakibat ang angking IMAHINASYON at kakayahang MAKIPAGSAPALARAN o MAGBAGO ay ilan lamang sa mga personal na umuudyok sa isang laybraryan upang hanapin ang sarili at magtagumpay. Naniniwala ang pangkasalukyang laybraryan
sa sinabi ni Edward de Bono, "sinuman ang nabubuhay sa nakaraan, siya ay walang kinabukasan. "

Ang laybraryan, upang mapabilang, umasam at higit sa lahat, makabuo ng pagbabago ay kinakailangang matuto paano makaalam kaalinsabay nito ang pagkatuto sa pagbabago na kinakailangan maganap sa mga aklatan. (Garcia, 2006) Ito ay pinapatotohanan ng laybraryan mismo sa pagbuo ng mga mabubuti at karaniwang palakad at pinakamahusay na mga kasanayan sa bawat layuning natuklasan mula sa teknolohiya na kanyang
ginagamit upang ang sobrang paggastos ay maiwasan, magkaroon ng tamang pamumuhunan sa oras, at maragdagan ang kahusayan at kakayahan sa paggawa.

Kinakailangan at isang katotohanan na malaki ang nagagawa para sa mga aklatan ang pagpapaalam sa komunidad ng anumang serbisyo na mayroon ang mga ito. Inilalagay nito sa isipan ng balana na ang aklatan ay puntahan o lugar para sa impormasyon at matutulungan sila na maunawaan ang iba pang maaaring tangkilikin mula dito. (Arlante, 2006)

PLAI-NCR Search for Outstanding Professional of the Year 2008

The Professional Regulation Commission will observe its Anniversary
Celebration on the third week of June, 2008. One of the highlights
of this activity is the conferment of the "Outstanding Professional
of the Year" to give recognition to the achievements and services of
professionals who excelled in their respective fields of endeavor
during the past year or entire career.

In this regard, the PLAI – National Capital Region Librarians
Council is now accepting nominations from professional library
associations in the NCR. The nominees shall be screened by PLAI-NCR
and only one (1) candidate shall be endorsed to the Philippine
Librarians Associations, Inc. to compete with nominees from other
Librarians' Associations nationwide. The most qualified candidate
shall then be the recipient of the Outstanding Professional of the
Year in the field of Library and Information Science.

In view thereof, associations are hereby requested to submit the
Curriculum Vitae of their nominees to the PLAI- NCR Librarians
Council, TNL, Ermita, Manila , on or before 22 February 2008.
Initial screening shall be conducted on 25 February 2008.

107th Anniversary of the National Library of the Philippines

THE National Library of the Philippines originated from the American Circulating Library of Manila established as a memorial to the American officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the service of their country in the Philippines and as a source of instruction and profitable entertainment for all residents of Manila. Early in 1901, the Board of Trustees of the American Circulating Library donated the library’s collection to the Government of the Philippines. The Philippine Commission passed Act No. 96 on March 5, 1901, officially accepting the donation and established the first public library in the country – the National Library of the Philippines.

Succeeding years saw the growth of the National Library of the Philippines. Through Act No. 2572, passed on January 31, 1918, it was merged with two other government agencies – the Executive Bureau’s Division of Archives, Patents, Copyrights, and Trademarks and the Law Library of the Philippine Assembly – and became known as the Philippine Library and Museums. Act No. 3477, passed on December 7, 1928, created the National Library and the National Museum as two separate government agencies. In 1947, Executive Order No. 94 renamed the National Library as Bureau of Public Libraries. Then under Republic Act No. 3873, passed on June 18, 1964, the Bureau of Public Libraries was renamed the National Library of the Philippines.

Since its establishment, the National Library of the Philippines has embarked on the acquisition of various private collections through donations and purchases. Today, the National Library has almost a million volumes of books, monographs, newspapers, and picture collections. Many of these tomes are priceless and irreplaceable.

Housed in the National Library of the Philippines are the following valuable collections: The President Manuel L. Quezon Papers, the President Manuel A. Roxas Papers, the Julian Cruz Balmaceda Collection, the Lope K. Santos Collection, the General Carlos P. Romulo Memorabilia, the Philippine Revolutionary Papers (1892-1906), rare Philippine newspapers and magazines such as El Indio Agraviado, La Lectura Popular, El Renacimiento, Muling Pagsilang, El Crito del Pueblo, El Heraldo de la Revolucion, and La Independencia. The "crown jewels’’ of the National Library are the Dr. Jose P. Rizal manuscripts, notably the original manuscripts of the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

We congratulate the National Library of the Philippines headed by Director Prudenciana C. Cruz, its Officers and Employees on the observance of its 107th Anniversary. We wish them success in all their endeavors.

INFORMATION ACCESS: INTERNET AND LIBRARIES to be held at the City

The conference aims to:

1. inform participants on what the IFLA-FAIFE Internet Manifesto is
all about;
2. discuss the relationships among freedom to access to information,
the Internet and Libraries and Information Services;
3. discuss barriers to the flow of information and how these barriers
can be removed;
4. discuss strategies, policies, and plans that implement the
principles expressed in the Internet Manifesto;
5. discuss current policies and practices of Philippine Internet use.

The South Manila Inter-Institutional Consortium (SMI-IC) comprised of
twelve (12) member academic libraries along Taft Avenue, Manila is
pleased to invite you to a Seminar-Workshop on Archives Management:
Principles and Techniques, to be held on March 26-28, 2008, at the
College of Public Health Auditorium, UP Manila, Pedro Gil St.,

The objectives of the seminar are as follows: (1) to have a greater
understanding of the role of archives in fulfilling the mission of an
